Michigan junior defensive tackle Mason Graham has been tabbed as a finalist for the Outland Trophy, which is presented to the sport’s best interior lineman regardless of the side of the ball. The other finalists are Kelvin Banks Jr. (offensive line) of Texas and Walter Nolen (defensive line) of Mississippi.

From a press release:

Graham is the program’s first finalist for the Outland Trophy since Olusegun Oluwatimi became the program’s first-ever winner in 2022. Graham is the sixth player in program history to be named a finalist and the first defensive lineman.

A second-team All-American in 2023, Graham has enjoyed another productive season this fall. He is fifth on the team and first among defensive linemen with 38 tackles. Graham has 7.0 tackles for loss, the second-highest total on the U-M roster, and has also set a new career-high with 3.5 sacks, all of which have come in Big Ten play. Graham has one pass breakup and one blocked field goal try as well.

Michigan junior Colston Loveland has been honored as a finalist for the Mackey Award, presented to the nation’s top tight end. Bowling Green’s Harold Fannin Jr. and Penn State’s Tyler Warren are the other two finalists.

From MGoBlue:

Loveland is U-M’s second-ever finalist for the award presented to the most outstanding tight end in the nation, joining 2016 winner Jake Butt. Loveland is joined by Bowling Green’s Harold Fannin Jr. and Penn State’s Tyler Warren as this year’s finalists.

An All-Big Ten first-team pick in 2023, Loveland has enjoyed a career season with the Wolverines this fall. He leads the team with 54 catches (single-season U-M tight end record), 582 yards and five touchdowns.

In addition to breaking Michigan’s single-season catches by a tight end record, Loveland is 99 yards shy of the single-season tight end receiving yards record (649 to 748). He has led or co-led Michigan in catches in all nine games he has started and finished this year.

Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore has had the Ohio State rivalry ingrained in him since he arrived at U-M ahead of the 2018 season.

Quote Of The Day

“It felt great to be back. A lot of the commits were there, and we bonded well. We’re going to turn things around next year. We have a crazy class coming in. It was more about just getting around everybody again. It feels good every time. Seeing the team blowout Northwestern, it’s something you want to be a part of. I’m getting to know more and more people on the team, so it feels like I’m already part of the team.”
