On Sunday, the Michigan Wolverines are playing the Wisconsin Badgers for a Big Ten Championship from Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Downtown Indianapolis. A few days ago, that did not seem like a possibility, but the team has regained its earlier form and is back on the upswing heading into March Madness.

“Number one, we have a group that has great character, basketball character and life character,” head coach Dusty May said after the win over Maryland. “So obviously we were disappointed, but there were some circumstances that we weren’t ready for: the amount of games, the lack of practice. We basically tried to make sure we got to the games, and we weren’t as crisp.

“So we got knocked down a notch. Then our guys showed up the last week of practice with a reinvigorated mindset. When you put in the work and believe in yourself and you have teammates and a staff that believes in you, I think good things typically happen more times than not.

“It’s a group that didn’t waver with their conviction to work and stand together because our season is long. I mean, our season is long, and these guys are together a lot. And it’s demanding physically and mentally. So for them to have the renewed energy, is, just once again, just shows what type of guys they are.”

Michigan’s tilt with Wisconsin on Sunday tips off at 3:30 p.m. ET from Indianapolis. The game will be televised via CBS and followed by the NCAA Tournament Selection Show.

Michigan quote of the day

“ I feel like we just got tired of getting punked. I feel like the last few games that we lost, we got punked. That’s been a key contributor of our losses. I feel like we lose games, we get outrebounded. I feel like our guys had to take into account a big responsibility to be able to get boards and finish plays. Our first shot defense is really good. But sometimes when we lose these games, we get outrebounded.”
