Newsstand: Michigan continues QB room revamp with Jake Garcia

The Michigan Wolverines added another member to the roster for the 2025 season, addressing the quarterback position again with the addition of former East Carolina, Miami (FL) and Missouri signal-caller Jake Garcia.
Garcia has appeared in 15 games with seven starts during his college football career. He’s completed 188 of his 310 passes (60.6 percent) for 2,376 yards and 15 touchdowns with 16 interceptions, while logging 40 rush attempts for 46 yards and 2 scores.
His addition adds some veteran depth and joins a Michigan quarterback room that also includes freshman Bryce Underwood, the projected starter, Fresno State transfer Mikey Keene, graduate Davis Warren, sophomore Jadyn Davis and incoming freshman Chase Herbstreit. Keene dealt with an injury in the leadup to spring ball, while Warren is currently recovering from a torn ACL suffered in the ReliaQuest Bowl vs. Alabama.
“He’s a good team leader,” Al Myatt of Bonesville said of Garcia. “I think his teammates will like him because he’s team-oriented and very positive. He’s a great interview, and he’s very positive. As quarterback, he was speaking for the whole team. After the first game of the season, he was saying that we’re gonna be selling this place out by the end of the year, it’s gonna be standing room only. He was projecting into the future in a very positive manner. I think he was a very highly regarded quarterback.”

Michigan quote of the day
“It only makes sense to replace some of these guys. Chase Herbstreit. I don’t really count as a viable option to play this year. So you have Bryce Underwood and then Mikey Keene, who came in and got injured right before the spring. So, numbers-wise, you need somebody capable. You only have one quarterback on the entire roster that’s thrown a pass in college, and that would be Mikey Keene, who has never played at the Power Four level. So I think it’s a good thing to, potentially, add Jake Garcia. It looks like it’s going to happen at this point. He’s a guy that would come in knowing that, ‘hey, I gotta work for anything I get. If I could get the number two job.’ Very, very slim chance he wins a starting job. I wouldn’t project it. But you can’t put a limit on anybody. But at the very least, it seems like if he’s willing to come to Michigan, he’d be willing to help mentor Bryce Underwood be a positive addition to the room, to the offense and to learn.”
