Newsstand: Michigan football closing out April with end of portal, NFL Draft

The Michigan Wolverines‘ spring football circuit is in the books with the Blue team’s win over the Maize on Saturday, 17-0, headlined by a walk-off trick play that led to an 88-yard touchdown connection between Bryce Underwood and tight end Jalen Hoffman.
The 15 practices allotted during the spring period are complete, and now the coaching staff and front office turn their attention to the NCAA transfer portal, which closes on Friday. U-M has addressed two of its needs via the portal already in the form of punter Luke Bauer and running back CJ Hester, who committed on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
Michigan has other needs too, namely on the offensive line, wide receiver, quarterback and defensive back as it looks to round out its depth and competition.
This week will also be the closing of a chapter for a handful of Michigan stars in the 2025 NFL Draft, who will hear their names called for the last time as Wolverines before transitioning to the pro team who takes them. The first round kicks off on Thursday night, with the second and third rounds on Friday and the fourth through seventh rounds on Saturday. This year’s draft takes place in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Michigan quote of the day
“Yeah, he got better. He progressed and did things. Every single day, he got better. Bryce made him better, and he made Bryce better. So, that was cool to watch throughout the spring. Just the temperament that he had and the relationship was really cool to watch two guys compete every day. After every throw, they’d dap each other up, high-five each other, pick each other up when one of them made a mistake, or celebrate each other’s good. So, it’s been fun to see.”
