The Michigan men’s and women’s basketball programs begin their 2024-25 campaigns on Monday night, officially kicking off new eras and different looks for both programs.

For the men, it is the regular season debut of head coach Dusty May, who is in his first season with the Wolverines after a successful stint at Florida Atlantic, which saw his team make a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances the last two seasons, including a run to the Final Four during the 2023 season. With him is a completely revamped roster that has six transfers, three true freshmen and three holdovers from last season. The goal will be to get back into Big Ten contention and the NCAA Tournament one season after going 8-24.

Their opener comes against Cleveland State on Monday night at Crisler Center, which tips off at 8 p.m. ET on Big Ten Network.

The women are still helmed by Kim Barnes Arico heading into her 13th season with a new-look roster that includes the best recruiting class in program history, headlined by a pair of five star freshmen in Syla Swords and Olivia Olson. Barnes Arico’s program was also rocked by the transfer portal in a different way, namely losing last year’s leading scorer Laila Phelia to Texas. Only four players remain from last year’s team in Jordan Hobbs, Greta Kampshroeder, Alyssa Crockett and Macy Brown.

Michigan kicks off its season on Vegas at 7:30 p.m. ET against defending national champion South Carolina, who enters the season as the No. 1 team in the country once again.

Michigan quote of the day

“Win. I mean, there’s no other factor we want to win. You know, so that’s what we’re going to focus on. How do we win the next game and then win the next one and win the next one? So that’s all we’re worried about is just getting the W for next week.”
