The Michigan Wolverines have a revamped quarterback situation headlined by freshman Bryce Underwood and Fresno State transfer Mikey Keene. But there could be some more help on the way via the NCAA transfer portal.

On3’s Pete Nakos and The Wolverine’s EJ Holland predicted that Michigan would land former East Carolina quarterback Jake Garcia. Garcia visited Ann Arbor this week and could add some experience to the room.

Per Nakos:

Garcia finished his lone season with the Pirates with a 3-3 record as a starter before losing the job. He threw for 1,426 yards and eight touchdowns with a 60.2 completion percentage. The former four-star recruit in the class of 2021 has one year of eligibility remaining. He could petition for a medical redshirt for the 2021 season, which could give him two more years to play in college.

Michigan dealt with some injury issues at quarterback this offseason. Keene missed most of spring football with an upper-body injury, while veteran Davis Warren is still on the mend from a torn ACL in the ReliaQuest Bowl win over Alabama.

That allowed Michigan to force-feed reps to Underwood and Jadyn Davis, who both played the entirety of the spring game. However, with some banged-up veterans and only Chase Herbstreit projected to join this summer, an opportunity exists to add back-end depth. Garcia would be that.

Michigan quote of the day

“The Vikings feel like JJ McCarthy, in Day 9 of these off-season workouts, is a lot stronger than Day 1. Coming off that knee issue, they knew he could start a little slow, but they like the way he’s throwing the ball. They feel very comfortable with where he’s at going into training camp. They didn’t sign Rodgers and went with McCarthy because they believe in their three-year plan — a young quarterback they like on a rookie scale. So, they’ll be aggressive on the roster without him. They believe they can win a Super Bowl in the next three years.”
