Michigan Wolverines softball is back in a familiar spot, punching its ticket to the 2024 NCAA Tournament after missing the event for the first time since 1994 last season. The automatic bid was clinched over the weekend with a win over Indiana in the Big Ten Tournament on Saturday.

The Wolverines kick off tournament play this weekend at Oklahoma State’s Cowgirl Stadium with a game against No. 25 Kentucky in the first contest of the regional set of games.

Last year, the team went 26-25 in the first season without legendary head coach Carol Hutchins, who entered retirement and gave what to longtime assistant Bonnie Tholl.

Now, the work moves forward to take another step toward vintage Michigan softball postseason success.

“From the moment we found out last year and our season ended (that) we weren’t going to be a part of the NCAA tournament, the group recognized that we didn’t uphold the Michigan softball standard.” Tholl said, via The Michigan Daily. “I believe that mentally, our upperclassmen went to work right then, and I give them all the credit for really leading this group.”

Michigan quote of the day

“It was great. It was good for the spirits of the team and everything. After which, we actually got to see the spring ball play out, and everyone got acclimated to it pretty quickly. He’s just a good guy to be around. He brings joy to the game. He loves the game as much as we do, and he cares about winning just as much as we do. So, he’s not afraid to put the best guys in the plays. So, I’m excited to see what’s going on with that.”
