Newsstand: Michigan tied for top transfer portal class after landing Yaxel Lendeborg

The Michigan Wolverines are tied atop the On3 college basketball team transfer portal rankings with Baylor after the addition UAB forward Yaxel Lendeborg, the No. 1 player in the portal cycle.
“On3’s Team Transfer Portal Index utilizes the On3 (P)erformance score to measure a team’s production during the transfer process, compared relative against its roster and not a comparison against other schools,” the site says. “This proprietary algorithm determines if a school has improved its overall team talent, stayed the same, or declined in talent during the transfer window.”
This season, Lendeborg was a star with the Blazers, averaging 17.7 points, 11.4 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.8 blocks and 1.7 assists per game while shooting 52.2% from the field and 35.7% from three-point range.
Lendeborg is the third commitment in the transfer portal class for Michigan, joining former North Carolina point guard Elliot Cadeau (No. 41 overall) and Illinois forward/center Morez Johnson Jr. (No. 20). U-M has lost four players via the portal thus far – guards Tre Donaldson and Justin Pippen, forward/guard Jace Howard and forward Sam Walters.

Michigan quote of the day
“Michigan played two seven-footers last season. It’s rare not only because the two bigs have to possess unique skill sets — Wolf is a unicorn with his playmaking — but also because there aren’t that many out there, ready and available. The Wolverines would’ve loved to have Wolf and Goldin clones for next season, but that’s not reality.
“Maybe 6-foot-9 is the new seven-foot, though, because Michigan now has a playmaking ‘4’ man in Lendeborg and a physical center down low who can be a screen-and-roller and rim runner in Johnson. This is essentially the 6-foot-9 version of the Wolf and Goldin combination.”
