The Michigan Wolverines have continued to chip away at roster needs via the NCAA transfer portal, now up to 7 commitments this offseason as the build continues into the 2025 season. The latest comes from former Fresno State quarterback Mikey Keene, who pledged to the Wolverines on Monday.

Keene was a three-star recruit in the 2021 class and played his first two seasons at UCF before transferring to Fresno State in 2023, throwing for 2,976 yards, 24 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. This season, he threw for 2892 yards with 18 touchdowns and 11 picks. Now, it has some veteran help for a quarterback room that could be led by No. 1 overall recruit Bryce Underwood as soon as this upcoming season.

The transfer portal is currently in a dead period for visits until Jan. 1 with the deadline to enter the portal set on Dec. 28. Michigan is still in the mix for a number of top prospects, but they will not be able to visit until after the new year if they have not already.

Keene joins a class that includes wide receiver Donaven McCulley, offensive lineman Brady Norton, defensive tackle Damon Payne, linebacker Troy Bowles and defensive backs TJ and Tevis Metcalf. On3 currently rates the haul as the No. 3 class in the portal rankings relative to the talent lost via the portal.

Michigan quote of the day

“One of the big things, and what we talk about with our current guys and will continue to with them and with recruits is that player evaluation and compensation in the NFL is a pretty straightforward thing.  When players get to their second contract beyond the rookie contract — so, the first time they get to be able to negotiate a contract and get to be paid the true value of what they’ve done so far in their careers — it is simply production in comps. Whatever positions they may be, what is the production they’ve had? What is the potential for future production, and what are the comps, like in any market? What are players that have similar production, what have they done, and how are they compensated?”
