Newsstand: Michigan/UC San Diego tip time set for Thursday

The Michigan Wolverines are the No. 5 seed in the South Region of the 2025 NCAA Tournament and will take on the No. 12 seeded UC San Diego Tritons on Thursday in Denver. The game tips off at 10 p.m. ET on TBS.
Michigan, to many, is underseeded in the event after winning the Big Ten Tournament. Head coach Dusty May said it could create a bit of an edge.
“We control what we can control, so we’re extremely excited to go to an amazing city,” May said after Sunday’s win over Wisconsin. “I love Denver, Colorado, and so just very grateful that this team can continue playing and we have another opportunity in postseason play.”
UCSD is a trendy upset pick heading into the NCAA Tournament due to their unique style of play, forcing a ton of turnovers and protecting the ball at a high level. May admitted Sunday it was a team he was looking to study this offseason.

“I actually had them on my list of teams to study this offseason, so I get an early head start,” May said. “… I was planning to study [them]. And thank goodness our season’s not over where we start our offseason studies either, so like I said, I’ve met their coach on the road recruiting because they’ve had immediate success as they’ve transitioned, and I’m a big fan of our profession and our game, so I kind of just bumped into him and said hello, but I’ve heard great things, and they’re known as being a really, really good basketball team.”

Michigan quote of the day
“It means the world to me, and I think it feels — I think the best feeling is seeing the guys from last year, the smiles on their faces. This is what we came here to do. Coach recruiting us out of the portal… this is what we came here for, and this is what we wanted to do. It means the world to me, I know that, and it means the world to my teammates. It’s a blessing to play for something that’s bigger than you. With this black M on our jersey, it’s a legacy behind it.”
