The Michigan Wolverines officially close out their 2024 season on New Year’s Eve in the ReliaQuest Bowl against the Alabama Crimson Tide in a rematch of last year’s Rose Bowl College Football Playoff Semifinal. The calendar year started with the two blue-blood programs squaring off, so it is only appropriate it ends that way.

The latest Vegas odds via FanDuel Sportsbook list Alabama as a 12.5-point favorite over Michigan on Tuesday afternoon from Raymond James Stadium in Tampa. The over/under for total points scored is set at 42.5.

Michigan is expected to play without several of its key players on both sides of the ball, but the opt-outs are not a concern to the staff.

“I think it would complicate things if it happened in the moments leading up to the game,” interim offensive coordinator Steve Casula said. “But we’ve had pretty good sense and pretty good handle of who was going to be available for the game. So I don’t know if complicate is the right word, but different than a normal game week. But fortunately, you’ve got time to get ready. And I’ve made this comment before. There’s always this impression, not just our program, but everywhere, that the guys that play in games are the only ones that practice. We’re trained. We’ve got a very healthy program. We’re in good depth. And we feel good about where we’re at.”

Tuesday’s game kicks off at noon and will be broadcast via ABC.

Michigan quote of the day

“[Edge] Derrick [Moore] was banged up, so I think he will have another gear [next year] just as anybody that gets a year older, another year of experience,. He had a lot of ‘almost’ sacks this year where he slid off a guy, or what he did was free up Josaiah or whoever it was to get to the quarterback. He’s a very selfless player. And I think both he and Cam [Brandt] are going to be fun to watch. They’re going to be there.”
