Newsstand: Michigan women punch ticket to NCAA Tournament
The Michigan Wolverines women’s basketball program is heading to its sixth straight NCAA Tournament under head coach Kim Barnes Arico, grabbing the No. 9 seed and taking on No. 8 Kansas on Saturday at 2 p.m. ET in Los Angeles.
The broadcast will take place on ESPNews.
Michigan is making its 12th NCAA Tournament appearance in the program’s history with an 11-11 overall record in the event. Its peak of success came in 2022 when it made its first trip to the Elite Eight. Barnes Arico is making her 11th trip to the big dance overall with her first four appearances coming at St. John’s in 2006 and 2010-12. She is the only coach in Michigan history to guide the team to seven NCAA Tournament trips.
Michigan finished the season 20-13 overall and 9-9 in Big Ten play. It compiled an 11-4 record at Crisler Center, 5-6 record on the road and 4-3 mark in neutral site contests. The women are coming off a 2-1 mark in the Big Ten Tournament with wins over Minnesota and No. 12 Indiana and a loss to Caitlin Clark and No. 3 Iowa, who were tabbed a one seed in the women’s bracket.
