Newsstand: Sherrone Moore praises defense, urges need for bowl game
Michigan needed its defense to step up if it was going to have a shot to beat Indiana, but a great effort was not good enough to keep the Hoosiers from moving to 10-0 on the season.
Down 17-3 at halftime, the defense stood tall in the second half and gave Michigan a chance to win by only surrendering 3 points after the break.
“I thought they did an unbelievable job in the second half,” head coach Sherrone Moore said after the loss that dropped U-M to 5-5. “The fight, the effort. I think they allowed 56 yards And just in the game, you know, that offense is averaging 40-something points a game to hold them at 20. It was huge. So, I thought they played really well in the second half. Really, really well in the second half. Not our style of ball in the first half but there’s some things we got to clean up, but second half, it was good to see.”
Still, the team performance fell short, and now Michigan finds itself needing one win with two games to go in order to secure a bowl berth. And it is not something they will shy away in striving for.

Y”eah, 100%,” Moore said. “You know, guys want to go play another game, another opportunity to play football together, put on the helmet, put on the jersey. That’ll be a motivating factor for sure. But the motivating factor, number one, is to go win. So that’s what we’re going to try to do.”
Michigan is on a bye next week before returning to game action on Nov. 23 against Northwestern at home.

Michigan quote of the day
“Just kinda lost control of it there trying to find Peyton in the back of the end zone. Lucky we recovered it. Can’t have that, can’t put the ball in jeopardy. I’m proud of the way we came out. We said we wanted to start faster, and we did that with driving down the field and getting the field goal. Just proud of the way the guys came out. We came out aggressive, and I think Coach Campbell did a good job putting us in good positions to drive down the field there.”
