The Michigan Wolverines are onto the Sweet Sixteen after wins over No. 12 seed UC San Diego and No. 4 Texas A&M, and their prize is a trip to Atlanta for a showdown with the top-seeded Auburn Tigers on Friday in Atlanta.

Upon completion of the second round games on Sunday night, tip-off times for this weekend’s games were announced. Michigan will get a late-window game on Friday with a 9:39 p.m. scheduled start following the conclusion of the game between Ole Miss and Michigan State, set for 7:07 p.m. CBS will broadcast both games with Ian Eagle, Bill Raftery, Grant Hill and Tracy Wolfson on the call.

The winner of each will advance to the Elite Eight with a South region crown on the line and trip to the Final Four in San Antonio.

“I felt UCSD was very underseeded,” head coach Dusty May said after the Michigan win on Saturday. “I thought A&M and us were two heavyweights that it was going to be a prize fight. Actually, to all the Wisconsin fans behind our bench before the game, I bartered with them and said: I promise you that if cheer for us and give us a little jolt, we’ll rally the troops across the way and be Badger fans in Game 2.

And we want the Big Ten to do well. I think we’re 10-0 [at the time of Michigan’s win] and all the coaches and players in our league knew that this was a capability because we did it every night. We battled tooth and nail — there’s no nights off.

“The teams that are in the tournament are just the ones that close games a little bit better than the ones that aren’t playing still.”

Michigan quote of the day

“Just a complete team effort. Very happy for Ian [Burns] and Harrison [Hochberg] and Charlie [May to step on the floor in an NCAA Tournament game. Those guys, they’ve been awesome in scout team and getting our players ready, along with Phat Phat [Brooks] and Oscar Goodman. So happy for those guys to step on the court, shows those jerseys off in front of their friends and family and whatnot. Just proud of the group’s resiliency more than anything else.”
