Newsstand: Where Michigan stands in preseason top-25 projection
The Michigan Wolverines are about to head into their first full week of fall camp in the leadup to the 2024 football season, but the way they are viewed nationally has not changed much this offseason. This is a group that is expected to be a dark horse for its fourth-straight Big Ten Championship and make a legitimate push for the 12-team College Football Playoff.
On3’s Jesse Simonton has them among the best in the country, coming in at No. 8 in the land in his projected AP Poll top-25 ahead of the new campaign.
He explains the standing here:
“The Wolverines are transitioning from the Jim Harbaugh era to the Sherrone Moore regime, yet despite all the changes in Ann Arbor, Michigan still has a team capable of contending for the Big Ten,” Simonton wrote. “Or so we think? The defense returns likely first-round picks in Will Johnson, Kenneth Grant and Mason Graham and added key pieces in the secondary including UNLV safety Ricky Johnson. But what about the offense? Is Alex Orji the answer at quarterback? Can Donovan Edwards fill the major shoes leftover by Blake Corum?”
Ahead of Michigan are Ohio State, Georgia, Texas, Oregon, Alabama, Notre Dame and Ole Miss, in that order. Michigan will play the Buckeyes on Nov. 30, host Texas on Sept. 7 and take on the Ducks in Ann Arbor on Nov. 2.

Michigan quote of the day
“Just being a better leader, being someone that can be accountable to my teammates and always being around, being there for guys that need me. There are a lot of new guys, a lot of new people in this building, so trying to keep the standard where it was and make sure everyone knows what it’s like to be a Michigan man and what it takes to get to where we were last year.”
