On300 LB Mason Curtis becomes first commit in Michigan's 2024 class
Michigan has scored its first commitment in the 2024 recruiting class.
On300 Nashville (Tenn.) Ensworth linebacker Mason Curtis gave Michigan a verbal pledge on Monday afternoon, picking the Wolverines over offers from Michigan State, Kentucky, South Carolina, Tennessee, Ole Miss and others.
Michigan co-defensive coordinator Steve Clinkscale made the trip to Ensworth while recruiting in the Nashville-area during the spring evaluation period and offered Curtis after watching him practice.
“I talked to Coach Clinkscale when I get the offer and he was really cool,” Curtis said after the offer. “I’m excited.”
That excitement carried over the next few months as Michigan ascended as the favorite in his recruitment. Clinkscale and the Wolverines eventually closed on the first day of the dead period.
Other than his own athletic talents, Curtis has the pedigree in his family. His brother, Devyn, is a linebacker Tennessee State. Curtis is also a dual-sport athlete, showing some elite athleticism on the basketball court. He has posted videos of 360 degree windmill dunks.
At 6-foot-2, 190 pounds, Curtis is ranked as the No. 12 linebacker and No. 164 overall prospect in the 2024 class, per On3.
