Opinion: Initial Michigan spring football thoughts — the defense

The Michigan defense was the nation’s best a year ago, dominant, deep, and downright nasty in leading the Wolverines to a national championship. It had star power at all three levels, NFL talent everywhere, and — most importantly — a chemistry that made each guy play for the guy next to him. That’s asking a lot when there’s so much talent on the team, and it requires elite coaching, too.
