The Michigan Wolverines‘ first season under head coach Dusty May is in the books with a Big Ten Tournament banner and a trip to the Sweet 16 under their belts. Now, the work begins in terms of building the roster for next season and pushing the program forward.

The Wolverine’s Anthony Broome, Chris Balas and Clayton Sayfie discussed the first year on the job for May at Michigan and put some of the accomplishments into perspective, as well as looking ahead to what should be a busy offseason.

NOTE: This week’s episode was recorded prior to the portal commitment of UNC point guard Elliot Cadeau and Sam Walters’ decision to leave Michigan.

“What a year,” Balas exclaimed on the show. “If you had told me at the end of last season, after Michigan won eight games, that they were gonna win and hang a banner. They were going to make it to the Sweet 16 and Dusty May was gonna be your head coach, I would’ve signed up for that every day and twice on Sunday, as Dusty May likes to say. It was so much fun to see this team and it felt like they’d been together for a long time.

“There are some teams where, okay, you throw ’em together. I’ll give an example. Last year’s team kind of felt like that with Olivier Nkamhoua and guys like that and just didn’t feel right. This team felt like it had been together for a long time and it was so much fun to watch and to cover.

“Lots of bright days ahead here from Michigan basketball fellas, because this thing is only gonna get better now. It’s gonna come down to what they do in the transfer portal and the prices keep going up. I’m sure we’re gonna be talking about that, but it’s going to be dusty with Dusty May in the fold here and putting things together. I feel really confident about the future.”
