The hosts began the show by introducing USC, a 2-0 team with wins over LSU (27-20 in Las Vegas, thanks to an impressive game winning drive) and Utah State (48-0, first shutout since 2011). This is Michigan’s Big Ten opener, and USC’s first conference game as a member of the league.

“So weird,” Balas said. “I had forgotten as I was looking at the schedule earlier in the week. I’m like, ‘Oh, wow, I can’t wait for this one.’ And you’re like, ‘Hey, this is a Big Ten opener.’ It’s stupid, but it is what it is. I prefer the regional conferences and get off my lawn and all that. But hey, it’s here, it’s gonna be fun. We get to go back out there last year and go to Cali, good Lord willing, so bring them on. This is gonna be a good football game. And Michigan can win this game, guys, if they bring it. They gotta come a little bit stronger, obviously, than they did against Texas, but this is a game they can definitely win.”

“It’s weird, but I’m looking forward to it,” Broome said. “The toothpaste is out of the tube with what college football is, what it’s become. The Big Ten is a national conference now, hopped over a couple of time zones to pick up some of these teams.

“But this is a pretty big I don’t want to say contender-or-pretender game, but it’s a nice win for USC over LSU. To a certain extent, we don’t know what they are yet. We kind of know what Michigan is, but they’re still sort of a wildcard with the quarterback change and some of the things that have gone on the first couple weeks. I’m intrigued by it, I’m excited for it. And it’s a hell of a lot more exciting than playing Rutgers or Maryland this week.”
