Michigan has picked up a commitment from Seton Hall transfer Tray Jackson, a forward who can shoot. The 6-10, 215-pounder averaged 6.5 points and 2.2 rebounds per game for the Pirates last year and shot 37.5 percent from three-point range.

A Detroit native, Jackson started his career at Missouri before transferring to Seton Hall. He’s a former top 100 player who played his prep ball at Sunrise Christian Academy in Wichita, Kansas.

“I chose Michigan because It’s close to home and it means a lot for me to be able to come and play in front of my family,” Jackson told On3. “I chose Coach (Juwan) Howard because of his experience being around the game at a high level, but also the vision he has for my development on and off the court.”

Jackson notched 13 points and 6 rebounds against Michigan at Crisler Center two years ago in a Pirates win. He had a handful of double-digit scoring gamest this season, including 15 on 3-for-3 three-point shooting in a win over Butler.

The fifth-year student averaged 14.7 minutes per game last season after seeing 18.1 a year prior. He averaged 6.8 points and 3.5 rebounds as a junior. In addition to his nice game against Michigan (in which he made all three of his triples), Jackson put up 21 on 5 of 9 triples at Georgetown, 16 with 4-of-6 three-pointers in an upset win at Villanova, and 17 with 5 triples in 5 attempts in a win at Xavier.

In short … he can shoot the ball and will give Michigan another shooting option at the four. He started 18 of 32 games as a junior and helped the Pirates stretch the floor. He averaged three less minutes per game last year, however, started none and wasn’t used in three contests.

Jackson joins Alabama guard Nimari Burnett at Michigan from the transfer portal. The Wolverines are still looking at others, including North Carolina guard Caleb Love and others, to help fill the roster. U-M has lost center Hunter Dickinson to the portal and wing Jett Howard and shooting guard Kobe Bufkin to the NBA Draft.

Michigan finished 18-16 after collapsing down the stretch at Vanderbilt in an NIT loss. Howard said in the aftermath he was committed to making U-M better, but he’s got his work cut out for him.

“This summer, including me, we all have to get better. We have to get better on all levels when it comes to what we’re going to do to help serve our team, to give us the best chance to be a competitive group,” he said. ” Not taking away that today’s game was a very competitive game.

“I appreciate the effort from our guys, particularly given that we lost two starters in Jett Howard and Kobe Bufkin. I loved how our guys came out and competed. But in the end, those possessions, that’s really painful.”

As was much of the season.
