Sherrone Moore, 'a friend for life': From offensive line pizza night in Derby, Kansas, to head coach of Michigan
New Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore was recognized for his induction into the Derby High School Athletic Hall of Fame at halftime of a boys basketball game Jan. 30. It was fitting, too, that he returned to his alma mater on a Tuesday night. Back when Moore was a standout football player for Derby, Tuesday was pizza night for the offensive line group. Position coach Steve Wilson would host players after practice. A man named Pete at a local pizza parlor — a big supporter of the Derby program — would give them a great deal on some pies. Players would place $5 on the kitchen table as they entered Wilson's home.
