Sherrone Moore identifies impressive Michigan freshmen
INDIANAPOLIS — Michigan football freshmen have arrived ahead of the start of next Wednesday (July 31) fall camp, and many of them hope to contribute in year one. Head coach Sherrone Moore said Thursday from Big Ten Media Day he’s impressed with the group, identifying a few standouts in the early going.

Though nobody knows for sure what they’ll be until they get the pads on, many of them have already caught the coach’s eye.
“To watch these freshmen … talk about a mature group,” Moore said. “Start with the quarterback, Jadyn Davis — the dude just made plays every time he was in the game in the spring. He did a really good job handling things. He’s still learning the playbook, still learning the game, adjusting, but phenomenal, phenomenal job.
“Two other guys I’m excited to watch, both receivers — I’marion Stewart, Channing Goodwin. Those guys are really electric, have some ability. Whether they play early or not we’ll see, but I’m excited about them.”
He’s “super stoked” about the five linemen who enrolled, he added — Luke Hamilton, Blake Frazier, Jake Guarnera, Andrew Sprague, and Ben Roebuck. They’ll most likely be waiting their turn and learning from the veterans. He then compared freshman running back Jordan Marshall to a former and recent Michigan great.

“Jordan Marshall, he has a little bit of the Blake Corum mentality and skillset in him,” he said. “So, I’m super excited about him.”
Time will tell if he sees the field, though. Moore noted the running back room is “loaded” and said senior Kalel Mullings, for one, isn’t getting enough preseason publicity.
Finally, on defense, one guy stands out to the coach.
“The guy I’m probably most excited about as a true freshman is Dominic Nichols,” Moore said of the 6-5 edge. “He’s a big, long athlete. He’s goofy as can be, funny as can be, but the dude can play. I’m super excited to see what he does this year.”
