Sherrone Moore talks quarterback timetable, offensive line development
Sherrone Moore and Michigan football appear to have three viable quarterback candidates to start heading into the 2024 season, and Jack Tuttle, Alex Orji, and Davis Warren continue to work to be “the guy.” Head coach Moore said Thursday at Big Ten Media Day he’s confident in his group, believing they have the talent to win at U-M.

The standard won’t change, he insisted. They want to win another championship after capturing three straight titles and a national championship.
“All those guys have all the attributes you need to be a successful starting quarterback at the University of Michigan and a lot of other universities,” Moore said. “We’re super blessed to have all those guys.
“Everybody has their own traits, their own things that make them a little different. But I think the No. 1 thing we’re looking for is that one, they’re a playmaker. They’ll make plays, make the right decision, take care of the football. They want to win and will do anything for the team to win. Really, we’re going to look for those attributes and go from there.”
There is no timeline to decide, Moore added.
“The Ideal timeline is when we feel we have that guy that’s going to help us win,” Moore said. “It’s not really a date; not really a time. We’ll have a good feel as a staff.

“We have really good coaches. [Coordinator] Kirk Campbell is a phenomenal coach. He’s going to do an outstanding job with our offense. I know he’s going to make a great decision, and we’ll be there to make it together.”
Moore will take pride in the offensive line
Moore led the Michigan offensive line to back-to-back Joe Moore Awards, and the group was a semifinalist last year. Though he’s turned the unit over to Grant Newsome, his fingerprints will be all over it.
“It’s making sure our culture, our alignment stays the same,” he said. “Our players have done an outstanding job of keeping the culture; keeping the togetherness, brotherhood. It’s really a testament to them. Bringing in the right staff, the right people was a huge piece for us. Coach [Grant] Newsome has done an unbelievable job mentoring and leading our o-linemen.”
But the players have really taken the reins, Moore said.
“They’ve seen what it looks like, what it feels like … what it means to practice that way for us to be really good up front,” he said. “And being the head coach, obviously having the offensive line background, I’m going to take a lot of pride in making sure that line is ready to go when we hit game one.”
