Sights and sounds from Michigan football fall camp practices
Michigan Wolverines football began fall camp practices Wednesday, Aug. 2 in preparation for the 2023 season. The Maize and Blue have hit the practice field five times and have 26 days until the season-opener against East Carolina. Here’s a look at some of the top social media sights and sounds so far.
One of the most significant position battles on the team is at left tackle. Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh has said he feels like he has four starting-caliber tackles between graduate LaDarius Henderson, an Arizona State transfer, graduate Karsen Barnhart, graduate Trente Jones and senior Myles Hinton.

The way it looks, Barnhart — pictured taking a rep at left tackle with the first team — and Henderson appear to be the top two options on the left side. Barnhart practiced at left tackle during spring ball, while Henderson didn’t join the team in an official capacity until this summer, after having to finish up his degree at ASU.
The next group of photos shows Michigan senior running back Blake Corum back at practice. Corum underwent knee surgery last December, rehabbed for months and has finally been cleared to be a full participant. He said last month that he expected the Wolverines’ staff to ease him into things, but Corum is good to go.
The fourth photo in the set below also has another welcomed sign: sophomore cornerback Will Johnson, who had a knee scope done this offseason. Johnson has said he’ll be ready for the season but not sure how much he’ll play in the first few games. The specifics on how much he’s participating are unclear, but he’s on the field.

The video below shows Michigan graduate defensive back Mike Sainristil leading a team breakdown — “blue on me, blue on three…” — junior quarterback J.J. McCarthy connecting with sophomore wide receiver Tyler Morris among others, Corum going through an agility drill and Harbaugh proclaiming that the day of practice was “great.”
In the third picture below, Michigan senior defensive tackle Kris Jenkins works against graduate left guard Trevor Keegan during team period. Jenkins has bulked up to 305 pounds, after being listed at 285 last season.
Finally, Michigan shared some more clips from practice. In the video below, we see Henderson working in pass protection at left tackle, graduate linebacker Michael Barrett notch a pass breakup, McCarthy complete a pass, junior running back Donovan Edwards make a cut and burst through the hole and freshman cornerback Cameron Calhoun break up a pass.
