Michigan coach Sherrone Moore will continue his search for a defensive backs coach after Stephen Adogoke decide to stay in Houston with the Texans. The former U-M graduate assistant was reportedly headed to Ann Arbor, and there have been conflicting reports as to whether he actually accepted the job.

Now, though, it is clear he won’t be in Ann Arbor. Adegoke has spent the last two seasons in the NFL, first as a quality control coach for the San Francisco 49ers in 2022 and then as safeties coach for the Houston Texans, both under coach DeMeco Ryans. He was a graduate assistant at Florida in 2019 and ‘20 under Dan Mullen after playing safety for Mississippi State.

Moore could now look to Lamar Morgan at Louisiana, who coached with Jesse Minter at Vanderbilt, as a potential replacement. Morgan is the D.C. and safeties coach at his alma mater, and he’s familiar with the defense and would be an outstanding hire.

In addition, we’ve heard Toledo cornerbacks coach Corey Parker’s name, even if this one seems like a bit of a stretch. Parker has only been a collegiate coach for two years in the MAC — before that, he was head coach at River Rouge High in Michigan for 13 seasons, where he compiled a 113-34 record. He also served as the school’s dean of students from 2009-21 and athletic director from 2016-21.

Parker was a three-time regional coach of the year and earned state coach of the year honors in 2015 and 2019. He led River Rouge to a state title in 2019 and has hopes of being a collegiate head coach one day. Despite the inexperience, he is thought to be a good, up-and-coming coach.

Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel said Wednesday that U-M has increased its assistant coach salary pool.

“Prior to Jim leaving, I invested more in our assistant pool,” Manuel explained. “It really brought it up by a couple of million dollars to invest in our assistant coaches. That was done prior to Jim deciding to leave to go to the Chargers and that remains with Sherrone, in terms of that investment.”
