Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh continues to explore his NFL options, having interviewed with Denver. U-M, meanwhile, has continued to negotiate with him and could make him the highest paid coach in the Big Ten.

We do know the Broncos are seriously interested in the Michigan coach, but most think Harbaugh is a fallback candidate. Interestingly, former Stanford coach David Shaw, who stepped down this year after a 3-9 season — interviewed for the job Wednesday, per reports.
Shaw, of course, took over for Harbaugh after Harbaugh left for the NFL to coach the San Francisco 49ers. He resigned this season.
“After many prayers and multiple discussions with my wife, one phrase keeps coming to me — it’s time,” Shaw said in a statement sharing the decision, adding that there is “no desire for me to coach somewhere else,” per Stewart Mandel of The Athletic.

Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Denver secured the first in-person head coaching interview with former New Orleans coach Sean Payton. He will meet with Denver the morning of Jan. 17 after the Saints, who still own his rights, granted permission for the interview.
Unlike Harbaugh, however, Payton appears to have several other teams interested. The Houston Texans and Arizona Cardinals are among them.
While Indianapolis might have interest in Harbaugh, most believe Carolina won’t be an option, even though Harbaugh spoke with them last week.
On the basketball side, Juwan Howard’s Michigan team faces Iowa tonight with a huge opportunity at a big win. the Wolverines need a few after losing to Central Michigan at home Dec. 29, a quad 4 loss that hampers their NCAA Tournament chances.
