Today, we talk more about the Michigan football team, only a month and a half away from the opener against ECU. Head coach Jim Harbaugh is extremely bullish on his team, and he’s not alone. The coaches, everyone is on board in thinking this team is special.

Reporter Bruce Feldman recently wondered out loud … how does Harbaugh do it?

“He’s the guy, it’s hard to figure out how he does it … what is his superpower as a coach?” Feldman asked. “I remember both Tom Rinaldi and I were on the sideline of that game in Columbus. At one point it was early fourth quarter and all of a sudden Donovan Edwards blew open the game. We were in a timeout and I said, ‘Tom – turn around.’ We’re on the Michigan bench behind it, and it was just shock and disbelief because all those Ohio State fans, they were convinced they were going to get such revenge here on Jim Harbaugh. They’re coming into our place … this isn’t going to happen. And it happened worse.”

Michigan, of course, has used bully ball to pound the Buckeyes the last two years. The Wolverines are going for three in a row over OSU after mauling them two straight on the ground. The Buckeyes have been dominated in the second halves of both games.

“All the toughness, all those intangible qualities … I think he’s able to fester and bring them out,” Feldman said. “I think that ends up becoming such an asset for them, because the game to a large extent has gotten away from some of that. They don’t tackle as much as they used to at practice.

“There’s a lot of stuff where it’s a perimeter oriented game, and I think Harbaugh hasn’t moved much, if at all, from what he was certainly at Stanford … where they became the bully of the Pac-10. He’s done it again. It took him a while, but it’s a fascinating thing to be around.”
