TheWolverine.com Chat: Michigan football - Blake Corum, NIL, Mazi Smith, more
Michigan has been in the news for several reasons this week, starting with a huge win over Ohio State. The Wolverines thrashed the Buckeyes for the second straight season, amassing over 500 yards, and made it two straight for the first time since 1999-2000.

Harbaugh stopped short of saying the Wolverines had “caught” the Buckeyes, though is seems clear there’s been a changing of the guard.

“I don’t know. That seems like a lot of layers to some onion,” Harbaugh said with a grin. “Happy … happy with our team. I thought it was a great team effort. They played great, played as well as you could ask them to play, and I couldn’t be more happy and more proud of them.
“Now, move on to the next week. It’s great to be able to play in the championship game, and we’ll get ready for that.”
Meanwhile, there have been reports that Blake Corum is done for the season. We know he’ll have surgery this week (Friday has been the plan), and then it’s recovery time.
We also know how badly he wants to play this year, and that he’s not the typical athlete. If anyone could come back, it would be him. We talk about that in today’s chat.

Finally, what’s the situation with Michigan DT Mazi Smith? We know what’s been reported about being charged on a gun charge, but there are many layers to that onion, as well. We know he has the support of his athletic director and coach.
“We are aware of the charge against Mazi from a traffic stop back in October,” Michigan A.D. Warde Manuel said. “Mazi was honest, forthcoming and cooperative from the very beginning and is a tremendous young man. He is not and never has been considered a threat to the University or community.
“Based on the information communicated to us, we will continue to allow the judicial process to play out. Mazi will continue to participate as a member of the team.”
“I have respect for our judicial process and with that respect brings confidence that a fair and just resolution is forthcoming,” Harbaugh added. “Mazi’s character and the trust that he has earned over the past four years will continue to be considered throughout the process.”
We talk about that and more in chat, as well.
