Michigan football has completed the last leg of its annual spring trip with visits to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio. We talk about what we saw and picked up, more in tonight’s chat here: TheWolverine.com Thursday Chat.

Michigan landed another kicker pledge, transfer Hudson Hollenbeck from Mississippi State, and is looking at others, too.

Final thoughts on Hunter Dickinson and his Michigan legacy

Hunter Dickinson shares farewell message to Michigan: ‘I will always think of myself as a Michigan man’

On the basketball side, Michigan center Hunter Dickinson is off to Kansas, having picked the Jayhawks over Villanova, Maryland, and others. We talk about the impact on Michigan basketball, where Juwan Howard and staff turn next, and more.

“This decision might have even been harder than the first one coming out of high school, having all these coaches hit you up again,” now former Michigan center Dickinson said in a video he posted on social media. “Then again, it was also kind of easier going through it. I’m just really glad it’s over now.”

Kentucky was in the mix but supposedly wouldn’t offer cash up front.

“Every school and collective has taken a different approach in the last 22 months to how they would like to deploy NIL cash in recruiting, whether that be in the portal or at the high school level,” On3’s NIL expert Pete Nakos said. “The NCAA has made it clear time and again that pay-for-play is prohibited. But until the governing body comes down and truly makes an example of a school, every collective and donor is going to run on their own prerogative.

“In the case of Hunter Dickinson, we’re seeing all sides of NIL. Kentucky is making it clear the dollars will flow after his commitment. Other schools are opting to possibly go the route of drafting contracts before he actually shows up on campus. Screw the ‘Wild West’ moniker, this is the norm in college sports in 2023.”

Michigan is still trying to figure things out on the NIL front, especially for basketball.
