Michigan follows up a big win over Iowa with a game at Indiana. The Hoosiers always seem to play the Wolverines tough, and head coach Jim Harbaugh isn’t taking anything for granted.
Quarterback Connor Bazelak is slinging it, with modest success. Still, the Wolverines’ pass defense will have to be on the alert.
“They’re throwing the ball really well, throwing it a lot. It’s 250-some — 240-250 pass attempts, 8 touchdowns,” Harbaugh said Monday. “They trust him to throw the ball, have really good receivers and running backs. And they’re throwing it more than they’re running, so I don’t know exactly what his average is, but it’s a challenge from the passing game and the running game.
“He’s a big, tall, a guy that can make all the throws to all parts of the field, and he’s not afraid to let her rip. Eight touchdown passes. He’s just having a good start to the season.”
But the Wolverines are doing their thing on offense, too. Junior Blake Corum has been really good, and the running game dominant at times. Harbaugh praised running backs coach Mike Hart for his work with the group.
“He’s just a really good coach, and he’s a really good football coach who works extremely hard at the game,” the Michigan head coach said. “He contributes in so many ways — game day, day-to-day, coaching guys in the running game, in the pass game. He always has really good, sound ideas and is a really good teacher, communicator, expert at protections and blitz pickups.
“He’s coaching the guys how to play the running back position, but it’s a lot more than that. I mean, it’s a lot more than just being able to coach a position. He’s a go-to guy for me and the rest of the staff. He’s really good at what he does.”

Lloyd Carr Tunnel at Michigan Stadium
The Michigan Stadium tunnel has been named the “Lloyd Carr Tunnel,” and it’s deserved. Hart got a bit emotional when asked about it Wednesday.
“I love Lloyd. And when that happened, I’m like, I’m excited — for him, for what he did for me, for what he’s done for a million guys,” the former Michigan running back said. “I think it was well warranted.
“He’s a special, special guy, and special guy for me. I love him to death. So … I’ll be happy to run through that tunnel, to answer your question.”
Hart will be going back to Indiana Saturday on the opposite sideline where he coached for a number of years.
“I was there for four years, and I love Tom Allen and I respect that program a lot,” the Michigan running backs coach said. “He helped me. He changed me. So, I just have the utmost respect for them, at the highest level.
“A lot of those kids I recruited, helped recruit in there. They’re good. They play hard. And it’s not going to be easy. They always play us hard, and I was there for a couple of them.”
