TheWolverine.com Chat: Michigan spring football, NIL, more
Michigan is well into spring ball now, and there’s been plenty to like. Quarterback J.J. McCarthy has added some great weight and he’s slinging it, doing “J.J. things” in Jaylen Harrell‘s words. He’s ready to take the next step in his development.
We talk about that and more in today’s chat, here: THEWOLVERINE.COM NOON CHAT

McCarthy was in great spirits when he met the media Thursday.
“It’s been absolutely amazing,” he said of this spring compared to last. “Like, just effortless. It feels like everything’s in harmony. And just being able to be solidified as the guy … it’s a complete honor, and I’m happy that I’ve worked to get that position.
“But it’s just been so much easier to be on the same page with the guys that I know on the throw to coming this season, and just building up the chemistry has been amazing. So definitely, this spring has been great.”
Entering as the No. 1 has made a “tremendous” difference, he added.
“Tremendous impact because it just feels like I have a solid foundation right now,” the Michigan junior continued. “And it’s so much easier to grow upon that foundation when it’s safe, secure and just being able to know where I’m at. I’m not in my head as much … everything’s happening so effortlessly now.

“With the preparation coming into the season …. we still have fall camp to prepare for, too, for the season, and it’s just going to do wonders for me. I just can’t wait to see how the season plays out because of it.”
They took a step back after the Fiesta Bowl loss to unwind, he added, after the disappointment.
“We definitely took some time, took some time just to disconnect from football as a whole,” McCarthy said. “We are all human beings and going through like an eight-month season … that takes a lot on you, just every aspect of yourself.
“But after that week off, we just kind of dissected it, broke it down like, ‘okay, why did this happen?’ And we attacked it from every angle. So we figured out, just in our eyes, what was the reason. We’ve been hitting it since day one.”
We talk about that, Michigan basketball, and much more in this week’s chat.
