J.J. McCarthy has been the man at quarterback since week two, and he’s led the Wolverines to an undefeated season and a big win at Ohio State. The sophomore said the journey — first to beat out Cade McNamara, and then to get here, going through a shoulder injury and everything else — has been well worth it.
“Yeah, the journey has definitely been a roller coaster. Just going back to my injury in the offseason and then obviously the competition with Cade … Cade is a great quarterback,” he said. “A lot of it at the beginning of the year and fall camp was just focused on trying to beat him out.
“Then once I did, it was like, okay, now we have games to win. It was just that constant … a bunch of obstacles that just made me improve in every way I possibly can.”

He said he felt it made him a better player.
“I was just super blessed to have that opportunity to be able to compete with a great quarterback like that, but ultimately it’s the team around me,” he said. “It’s the team around him that brought us to this position, and we couldn’t have done it without the other 140-some guys.”
Michigan basketball needs a big stretch
Michigan lost to North Carolina, 80-76, playing well in stretches but unable to get over the hump. Head coach Juwan Howard and his team have a couple huge, Big Ten games coming up against Maryland and Penn State over the holiday. Can the Wolverines turn it around?
