Michigan is headed to the VRBO Fiesta Bowl to play TCU, and preparations have begun. At the same time, the A.D. and others are trying to figure out Name, Image, and likeness (NIL), the coaches are finishing up the 2023 recruiting class and young players are getting some practice run.

We talk about that and more in today’s chat. Join us here: NOON CHAT

Michigan will have to play the next two games (hopefully two) without junior running back Blake Corum. He’s rehabbing from a significant knee injury — probably worse than initially feared — and won’t be back for either TCU or the national championship game.

“It’s just next man up mentality,” Michigan sophomore quarterback J.J. McCarthy said after Michigan beat Purdue for the Big Ten championship. “That’s something that we preach no matter who goes down or what position goes down. But at the end of the day it’s like Coach Harbaugh said — it’s a brotherhood that leans on each other. No matter what happens, no matter what adversity we face, we’re always going to get through it together with that perseverance he talked about.

“It just shows up week by week. Yeah, it would be amazing to have Blake, and it would do wonders for us. But at the end of the day it’s next man up, and we’re just going to lean on each other and get through it.”

Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh noted it wasn’t just any man who was next up. Sophomore Donovan Edwards stepped up with huge games against Ohio State and Purdue.

“It’s a really good game plan. It’s a really good offensive line, and … this guy [Edwards] has 401 yards in the last two games,” Harbaugh said. “You want to talk about big games? This guy comes alive in the big games. And Blake Corum has been a warrior, too, that same way. Those are two supreme backs, Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards.

This guy, when it’s a big game, his whole career, whether it was high school, college no … he just hits another gear. He takes off to another level … 401 yards in the last two games. Amazing.”

Meanwhile, Michigan has landed another player from the portal in Nebraska linebacker Ernest Hausmann. This is a huge get for the Wolverines, who have picked their spots well.

We talk about him, other targets, and more in today’s chat.
