Michigan will start spring football Monday, believe it or not, in preparation for another Big Ten title defense in 2023. The Wolverines have a lot of pieces returning from last year’s College Football Playoff squad, but they still have a few holes to fill. We talk about that and more in today’s chat:

Michigan’s offensive success likely starts with senior running back Blake Corum, who returns on an NIL deal. The Heisman Trophy candidate will likely have to share more carries with Donovan Edwards this year, but Edwards can also play in the slot at receiver.

Corum has continued to rake in the money using his Name, Image, and Likeness. He spoke not long ago at an event in Jackson, Michigan. He led the “it’s great to be a Michigan Wolverine” chant at the end.

“My marketing agent hit me up and was like hey this is an opportunity for you, you know to get around with the fans and life fans. You know, why not? I’m coming,” Corum told News 10 out of Jackson, Michigan. “So shout out to 517 golf. It was amazing experience being out here interacting with the fans.

“I can’t wait to be back. I’m glad I’m back. The fan base is crazy. And then you know for myself, it’s amazing. I appreciate everyone so much for you know, supporting me and everything. I try to get in the community as much as I can because it’s important. And so, seeing everyone here tonight .. like I said, it was amazing.”

Corum will be limited in spring ball after undergoing offseason knee surgery. He went down against Illinois and tried to play against Ohio State, but was only in for 6 plays before being sidelined. He missed the Michigan Big Ten title game tilt with Purdue and the Fiesta Bowl vs. TCU, as well.

Michigan basketball needs a win

Michigan hoops, meanwhile, continues to struggle. The Wolverines lost two more close ones, first to Indiana at home and then at Wisconsin, that put their NCAA Tournament hopes on life support.

Junior center Hunter Dickinson made news by wearing a ski mask into Madison, later saying Michigan wanted to “steal a win” against the Badgers. Some criticized him, but head coach Juwan Howard made it clear he had his player’s back.

“Hunter is a competitor. He loves the game of basketball,” Howard said following the 64-59 loss when asked if he thought Dickinson enjoyed the villain role. “I love having Hunter. I’ve been with him now for three years.

“I’m in the trenches with Hunter … 24/7.”

U-M will face Michigan State Saturday night in Ann Arbor, sitting at 8-7 in the league. The Wolverines will need a near miracle to make the tournament, but will get another shot in the Big Ten Tournament in Chicago. Win that and U-M is guaranteed a bid.

We talk about that and more in today’s chat, as well.
