Thursday Chat: New Michigan QB coach, NIL, hoops, more
Michigan plays No. 1 Purdue tonight in Ann Arbor in a huge game, one that could get U-M closer to the NCAA Tournament bubble. The Wolverines are a 5-point underdog against Zach Edey and Co., and there’s concern that freshman Jett Howard won’t be able to play.

Head coach Juwan Howard said his son is saying he will play, but we’ll know at gametime.
Howard expects the Maize Rage and others to show up in full force.
“It’s great to have the type of support we’ve had in Crisler Arena,” he said Wednesday. “On Thursday, I expect there’s going to be another great crowd that’s going to be there. I’m hoping that it doesn’t continue to keep snowing too much, because we want everyone to be able to arrive and drive safely and pack the place and bring that energy and juice that our team is going to be looking forward to embracing versus the number one team in the country.”
Howard is 4-1 in his last 5 games against the Boilermakers, but this could be the biggest challenge yet. The Boilers are young but play extremely well together, and Michigan hasn’t proven it can beat a very good team yet.
Jim Harbaugh still looking for a Michigan QB coach
Matt Weiss was received of his duties last week, leaving Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh in search of a quarterbacks coach — possibly a co-O.C. — to replace him.
Several names have emerged, but the list seems to be shrinking. It won’t be San Francisco 49ers quarterbacks coach Brian Griese. There’s been a lot of buzz about Baltimore Ravens wide receivers coach Tee Martin, and Michigan analyst Kirk Campbell is definitely in the mix.

As reported earlier this week, the U-M quarterbacks love Campbell. He’s considered one of the rising stars in the profession, and there’s a familiarity there.
He understands the culture, and he’s been a big part of it. We’ll see if it’s enough to get him the job.
Also on the football side, Michigan continues to look to the transfer portal for help. We talk about those options and more in today’s chat, as well.
