Top 100 tight end Matt Ludwig commits to Michigan

Michigan landed a commitment from Top 100 tight end Matt “Moose” Ludwig TK. The Wolverines prioritized him early, hosted him on multiple visits and sealed a commitment shortly after tight ends coach Steve Casula visited him at Billings (Mont.) West High.
Ludwig is the No. 92 recruit in the country, the No. 5 tight end nationally and the top-ranked prospect in Montana. He took three trips to campus before wrapping up his decision, picking Michigan over offers from Notre Dame, Oregon, LSU, Texas A&M and many others. The Wolverines were the heavy favorite in his recruitment for months.
On the first Monday after the reported recruiting contact restrictions lifted, Casula flew out to Montana and met with Ludwig. That trip went really well and, after that meeting, Michigan had officially grabbed all of the momentum in his recruitment.
“At this point, I’ve really got the idea down of what’s going on at Michigan and what it means to be a Michigan man, and now it’s just trying to build that connection and build that relationship and really just spending quality time,” Ludwig told The Wolverine in the weeks leading up to this decision. “That’s what it’s come down to in my recruitment now.”
Ludwig is officially listed at 6-4.5, 240 pounds, but he’s closer to 250 these days. The four-star junior is a three sport standout who, in addition to his dominance on the football field, is a high-flying, physical basketball player and a track star who posted an eye-popping 11.12 100-meter-dash time this spring.

He’s a consistent rankings climber who emerged as one of the nation’s top tight ends while dominating competition in Montana. Ludwig caught 53 passes for 822 yards, averaging 15.5 yards per reception and scoring 4 touchdowns. The tight end also ran 35 times for 149 yards, adding 2 more scores to his total and completed 5 of 6 passes for 46 yards.
Michigan impressed him this spring and left the Top 100 commit with no boxes left to check. The offense stood out to him during his most recent trip to campus.
“They’ve got a pretty strong quarterback room this year and, just overall, the amount of work that was getting done during practice was really impressive.”
He previously had official visits set with the Wolverines, Tennessee, Georgia, Texas Tech and Texas A&M but decided he did not need those to make a final decision. Ludwig is now completely solid with Michigan. He does not plan on entertaining other schools moving forward and will help lead U-M as the highest-ranked member of its 2026 class.
“When it comes to the decision, that’s my decision,” Ludwig said. “I’m not going to change it up.”
