Michigan WR Tyler Morris plans to enter NCAA transfer portal
Michigan Wolverines football is expected to suffer a casualty to the NCAA transfer portal, with junior wide receiver Tyler Morris being expected to enter, he announced on social media.
The 5-foot-11, 185-pounder has one year of eligibility remaining, after playing three seasons at Michigan. He appeared in 35 games with 12 starts as a Wolverine.
Michigan still has one more game left this season, a bowl game that is to be determined. The Wolverines are 7-5 overall and finished 5-4 in Big Ten play.
Morris was tied second on the team and first among the wide receivers with 23 catches this year. Only junior tight end Colston Loveland had more than Morris’ 248 receiving yards and 2 touchdown grabs. He played 464 offensive snaps, the sixth-most on the team and more than any other non-offensive linemen.
The Bolingbrook, Ill., native had five multi-catch games in 2024, posting a season-high 7 for 64 yards in a 50-6 win over Northwestern Nov. 23. Morris had 1 grab for 14 yards — a third-down pickup — in the Wolverines’ 13-10 victory over Ohio State the following week, what appears to be his final game in a winged helmet. He also drew a pass interference call near the end zone.
Michigan’s passing game struggled as a whole in 2024, with the Wolverines ranking 130th nationally with 133.6 yards per game through the air. They were the only team without a 40-plus yard passing play during the regular season.
Morris also played a role on special teams, returning 5 punts for 38 yards with a 19-yard long.
The Michigan wideout hauled in 13 catches for 197 yards as a sophomore in 2023, helping the Wolverines win the national championship and Big Ten title with a 15-0 record.
He’s most famous for his touchdown grab in the Rose Bowl College Football Playoff semifinal victory over Alabama, when he darted 38 yards past the Crimson Tide defense.

Alabama WR to transfer
“The play wasn’t designed to go to me, so it’s not like I was the first option or anything like that,” Morris told TheWolverine.com earlier this year. “But you gotta run it to expect it. And then I saw the linebacker coming down, so I knew he had me.
“And there was nobody in front of me, so I just kept running. Honestly, once I caught it, I tried to run as fast I could and get up the corner.”
Morris had said the big play on that stage gave him confidence heading into the 2024 campaign, and he became the leader of the wide receiving corps with Roman Wilson and Cornelius Johnson each becoming NFL Draft picks.
Morris appeared in eight contests as a freshman in 2022, catching 3 passes for 25 yards.
He was coming off tearing his ACL in his spring 2021 season, missing the fall campaign while recovering from the injury.
Morris was a four-star and the No. 157 overall recruit in the 2022 class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking.
