Truth be told, Michigan was probably due a game like this — a tougher than hoped, 31-24 win at Maryland that was as enjoyable as a root canal. There’s almost always at least one in a season — a harder than expected, fourth quarter game against a team with some talent. They happen late in seasons sometimes, especially with a handful of guys banged up, including starting quarterback J.J. McCarthy.
