WATCH: How Michigan can maximize its second bye week, the road ahead
The Michigan Wolverines are in their second bye week at 5-5 with only the Northwestern and Ohio State games remaining in the regular season. So how can head coach Sherrone Moore use the time most effectively to make it a productive final few weeks of the year?
TheWolverine.com’s Anthony Broome, Clayton Sayfie and Chris Balas discuss their final thoughts on the Indiana game, how Michigan can make tweaks during the bye week, basketball’s loss to Wake Forest and your questions.
“I’ll be brutally honest, I would go out and get opinions from some outsiders,” Balas said on the program. “I don’t care if you have to pay somebody to dissect everything about the Ohio State football team, any weakness, anything, and start preparing for that football game.
“Maybe get some of the analysts that you’ve had on past staffs, with all due respect to the analysts on this staff. I’d call Jesse Minter. I’d call Jim Harbaugh. I would get anybody who has any time at all to spend time breaking down the Ohio State football team and where they might be susceptible when it comes to tendencies and stuff like that because the only chance of redemption at all that you have this year for this crappy season is to beat Ohio State.
“I don’t care if they overlook Northwestern, they’re still going to probably win that game because Northwestern is worse than this Michigan team. They damn well better win that game. Otherwise the the entire narrative on the season shifts even more in one direction. So to me, that’s what I would be doing.”

Sayfie responded: “I think they’re always preparing for that too during the bye week. It’s a great opportunity to do it two weeks before. At the same time, the Northwestern game is massive. You can’t leave that one to chance either because I think you go 5-7, you miss a bowl game in year one. I don’t think Sherrone Moore would be fired, but I think there would clearly be something wrong, right?
“You’d have to make major changes. He might already have to do that. There clearly is something wrong already, unfortunately. But there’d be heightened questions about just everything about what the future holds in December, either way is going to be a massive month for retooling the coaching staff and retooling the roster.”
