Howard discussed the other four members of the ‘Fab Five’ sitting courtside and appearing together for the first time publicly in decades. Howard was swept up in the moment and even several minutes late to his press conference due to all the catching up he had to do.
“I’m still on an emotional high just to see my brothers able to show up on a day so special, when you need them the most,” Howard said. “What I mean by needing them the most is, when you have a team that’s been fighting so hard — like our team — and coming up short game after game and sometimes having doubt that creeps up in your mind because you have those human emotions. But to see a group of brothers that have put on that jersey before and who have been through tough times and to be able to walk in that door and uplift our group and inspire them the way how they inspire them today with their presence, it was special to see, special to be a part of it.

Continued the Michigan coach: “Not discrediting our fans — our fans have been with us through thick and thin and really appreciate Maize Rage for being there and bringing the energy like they did — overall, collectively, was nice to see Chris, Jalen and Jimmy and Ray stepping in Crisler and for old time’s sake.”
The Michigan coach explained how the reunion came to be.
“I can’t take full responsibility for this one. I’ll give Jalen all the credit, and also I will add some of that credit to Ray,” Howard explained. “Like I have said before, we all have different schedules, and we all have families and we have obligations. So today being a day where no work day — you can say it’s another extra day of our weekend that was added being Monday — and to see with those schedules that everyone was able to sacrifice their time and effort to be here. It was just a special moment. And I expect that this won’t be the last.”
