ANN ARBOR – The Michigan Wolverines kicked off spring football practices on Tuesday in Ann Arbor and made players available to the media for the first time, headlined by senior linebacker Ernest Hausmann and fifth-year fullback/tight end Max Bredeson.

Each discussed the first day of camp and how the win over Alabama in the ReliaQuest Bowl, which came a month after the program’s fourth-straight win over Ohio State, served as a late-season springboard into the second year under head coach Sherrone Moore.

“It’s always something new,” Bredeson said on Wednesday afternoon. “Every season is different. Seeing new guys, new numbers, new faces. It’s always different. So, it’s about just restarting and going to work.”

Hausmann echoed the captain’s sentiments, saying that the opportunity to get on the field and start establishing the new team’s identity was something Michigan players had been looking forward to.

“The first day was great,” Hausman said. “It was great to be out there with the guys. You go through a whole winter cycle with everybody. Eight weeks grinding together in the weight room and building that camaraderie. And then to be able to put the helmet on, step on the field like that with everybody, it’s a special moment with Team 146 for the first time. So it’s always special.”

The win over Alabama in the bowl game was one that felt like it built momentum for the players coming back and establishing the identity of the 2025 team, claimed the veteran linebacker and former Nebraska transfer.

“That game was huge for the whole year to ust really build that momentum,” Hausman said during his media session “But at the same time, we have to keep the hungry mindset. We were 8-5 [in 2024]. That’s nowhere we want to be and that is not the standard that Michigan has set for itself. We’re nowhere near satisfied with the result.”
