The Michigan Wolverines have a record of 18 players at the 2024 NFL Combine in Indianapolis as they look to transition into the professional ranks. Thursday’s media availability revolved around the defensive backs, allowing U-M’s Mike Sainristil and Josh Wallace to speak.

You can watch the player media sessions using the embedded video here or on our YouTube channel.

Sainristil enters the event as one of the best all-around defensive backs in the class, and the switch he made to the nickel position was the fulfillment of a promise made to him by former head coach Jim Harbaugh.

“Coach Harbaugh made a promise while I was being recruited that when my time at Michigan is done, I was gonna be prepared for the next level,” Sainristil said on Thursday. “He kept that promise true and that was through every experience on the field and off the field. Everybody in the program from the staff to the players, definitely helped me prepare for this moment. And time and time again, you hear from people who have left the program that there’s no other program that’s going to help me get ready for the NFL like Michigan would.

“So, I’m very appreciative of everything that I went through at Michigan. I’m appreciative of all the guys and all the staff that I was able to go through it with.”

U-M corner Josh Wallace speaks

Wallace spent one season in Ann Arbor after transferring in from UMass and now finds himself on the doorstep of an NFL career. He said that the Michigan experience was one he glad he went through.

“It’s a great program with great coaches that are going to get you ready to the NFL,” Wallace said. “That was my experience going to Michigan this past year. I wanted to get ready for the NFL, and they did that to the best of their ability.

“During the season, Michigan had me well-prepared for this moment. Throughout the season, being coached by Coach Harbaugh, Coach Clink, Coach Minter had us prepared for this moment, and I’m blessed to be a part of the team.”
