The Michigan Wolverines are a no. 5 seed in the 2025 NCAA Tournament and will take on No. 12 seeded UC San Diego on Thursday in Denver. U-M enters the event coming off of a Big Ten Tournament title over the weekend, and it was another milestone in the first year under head coach Dusty May.

TheWolverine.com’s Anthony Broome, Chris Balas and Clayton Sayfie discuss Michigan basketball winning the Big Ten Tournament, its draw in the NCAAs, outlook for the event and more. Also included is spring football talk from coordinator availability and fan questions.

”What a job he’s done with this program,” Balas said on the show. “And no matter what anybody says, a banner is a championship. It’s funny how it works, right? When you win a conference tournament and then some people are saying, well, you know what, it’s not the regular season championship, and that’s more important unless it’s the other way around like it was in 2014 when you had a bunch of Michigan State writers say, well, the conference tournament’s more important anyway, because you get the automatic bid.

“In my opinion, any banner is a good banner fellows and Michigan gets a banner in May’s first year. Outstanding. What a fun time.”

Sayfie replied: “I thought Michigan was going to lose out. That’s what I was being told for a couple of weeks there by all sorts of people. But as I wrote a few weeks ago, you’re only playing well until you’re not. And you’re only not until you are. And things can change quickly in this sport.

“Next thing you know, you know, from Sunday to Sunday, Anthony and I are there in East Lansing. Last Sunday, Michigan had just lost its third straight game to end the regular season. Michigan State cuts down the nets at the Jack Breslin Student Events Center. A week later, Michigan’s cutting down nets in Indianapolis after Michigan State went home early on Saturday in the semifinal, Michigan beats Wisconsin. It’s amazing what one week can do. This sport is incredible and I’m super excited for this week with all the games”
