The Michigan Wolverines and Michigan State Spartans renew their rivalry on Saturday night in Ann Arbor in a game that looks a lot different than some expected coming into the year.

The defending national champions were thought to be miles ahead of the rebuilding MSU program, but both teams are 4-3 and feeling different about themselves heading into the tilt.

The Wovlerine’s Anthony Broome, Clayton Sayfie and Chris Balas discuss the state of the Wolverines heading into a potential season-salvaging game on Saturday night at the Big House, and why this is one that the program simply cannot afford to drop even in a season that feels off the rails.

When you say two different directions, you got two teams that are 4-3. One’s happy about it. And one is miserable. And one team looks to have improved before the game with their rival. The other one looks like it’s going in the other direction. You scored seven points at Illinois. That’s absurd. absurd. And to me, they’re no closer to figuring things out, than they were after the Washington game and they had a bye week they were coming off of.

It was tough to watch Sherrone Moore. He looked kind of defeated after the game. I felt for him, he’s a great guy. We want him to succeed here. But you can’t sugarcoat it. There’s no question that this coaching staff has not done a good job with this football team. Something’s missing… you look at the body language, former Michigan offensive lineman [and podcast co-host] Doug Skene says the same thing.

“Something’s wrong. You look at the quarterback position, they have no answers there, which, we predicted again this spring when we said they had to go to the portal. I’m concerned. And if you have a gun in my head today, I’m saying that Michigan State’s probably going to come here and win that football game, which is ridiculous. That is something that Sherrone Moore, if he wants to lose the goodwill of the fan base, any goodwill he has remaining, cannot afford to have happen.”

Other topics included Moore’s Monday press conference, the quarterback situation, the basketball exhibition game and your questions.
