Wolverine TV: Breaking down Amir Herring’s commitment to Michigan
TheWolverine.com’s EJ Holland discusses Michigan landing a commitment from four-star offensive lineman Amir Herring in a new episode of our recruiting podcast. The West Bloomfield native is the No. 4 in-state prospect and the No. 17 overall interior lineman in the 2023 class, according to the On3 consensus.
Michigan IOL commit Amir Herring
Holland: “I think it worked for both parties at the end of the day. Herring’s a Michigan type of kid that’s always wanted to play at Michigan, and I think Michigan needed Herring. The debate about whether he should’ve been a take or not to begin with shouldn’t have even happened. I think he’s a four-star prospect for a reason. I’ve seen him live on multiple occasions, including multiple games. I love the way he run blocks. He’s a road grader type. He plays with excellent technique, has really good feet. He’s a guy that plays with a mean streak. He’s aggressive. He’s actually pretty good in pass pro for an interior guy. He spends a lot of time playing tackle for West Bloomfield.”
Holland on Herring’s potential floor/ceiling
Holland: “His floor is so high. You know what you’re getting, and what you’re getting is very good. There might not be a big ceiling for Amir Herring, but you know you’re taking a safe take. The other point I was going to make, when you go out and you look at high school offensive lineman, something I always keep an eye on is how a lot of times in the trenches when you’re playing inferior high school competition there’s a lack of guys that are that type of size. It’s always important to see offensive lineman dominate the guys in front of them that are usually smaller guys. Amir’s that type of player. I mean he buries people. He does everything that you ask of him.”
