Wolverine TV: Breaking down Aymeric Koumba’s commitment to Michigan
TheWolverine.com’s EJ Holland discusses Michigan landing a commitment from three-star EDGE Aymeric Koumba in a new episode of our recruiting podcast. The Paris (France) Pionniers de Touraine product is the No. 51 overall EDGE in the 2023 class, according to On3.
On Michigan EDGE commit Aymeric Koumba having a 7’2″ wingspan
Holland: “It just shows the upside of Aymeric Koumba. He’s only six-foot-five, so he’s the same height as Enow Etta, but that seven-foot-two wingspan — that’s crazy. It’s clear that Mike Elston is really, really valuing length off the edge. He likes taller, longer guys for that David Ojabo type of role, and then he still values length in the Aidan Hutchinson role, but likes bigger guys like Enow Etta for that side. I think Aymeric Koumbc’s length is insane. It’s crazy that this kid hasn’t played a ton of football and looks the way he does in those camp clips. A lot of the battles he wins are because of his length. It’s impressive that he knows how to use that length to his advantage despite limited playing experience.”
Could Koumba transfer to the U.S. this season?
Holland: “Koumba actually just led his French national team to a championship, so that was big for him. It’s getting kind of late for him to transfer over to a high school. We’re already in mid-July. Obviously, high school football practices start in August. At the very worst, Koumba had a great international season with his club team, and he’ll continue to train with [PPI Recruits CEO] Brandon Collier. It’s not like he’s gotten no snaps throughout the year. He had his club season. He camped at various schools this summer, and he has Collier there in Europe to train with, to do more private sessions with to continue to enhance his game from a technical standpoint. Unclear if he’s going to play at the high school level. I would say it’s looking a little doubtful at this time, but we’ll see if anything changes.”
