The Wolverine’s EJ Holland was on the road over the weekend and saw several Michigan recruiting targets, including five-star Folson (Calif.) High quarterback Ryder Lyons.

Lyons Recruitment

New Michigan offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey extended an offer to Lyons shortly after arriving in Ann Arbor. Lindsey has made Lyons his top overall priority at the quarterback position in the 2026 recruiting class.

Both Lindsey and head coach Sherrone Moore went out to Folsom (Calif.) High and watched Lyns throw during the winter contact period. The Wolverines are now squarely in the mix in this recruitment along with schools like BYU, Ole Miss, Oregon and USC.

Here is what Holland said about his recruitment:

“Lyons has emerged as Michigan top quarterback target this cycle,” Holland said. “I had a chance to see him live for the first time, and he checked a lot of boxes. Lyons has elite arm strength and the ability to make plays with his legs. He’s a creator in and out of the pocket and has escapability similar to former Michigan quarterback JJ McCarthy. He can keep improving his processing and delivery short-intermediate. But it’s clear he’s the most talented quarterback on U-M’s board. Michigan is building some momentum here and will host him for his first visit this spring.”

Lyons is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and is set to go on an 18-month mission, technically making him a 2027 recruit.

Lyons is scheduled to make his first visit to Michigan on April 12.

At 6-foot-2, 205 pounds, Lyons is ranked as the No. 4 quarterback and No. 10 overall prospect nationally, per the On3 Industry Ranking. He is also ranked as the No. 1 overall recruit in the state of California this cycle.

USC, where his older brother, tight end Walker Lyons plays, has the lead on the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine with a 97.8 percent chance of landing him.

Michigan currently has three verbal commits in its 2026 recruiting class — On300 Jacksonville (Fla.) Mandarin cornerback Brody Jennings, three-star Cartersville (Ga.) Cass offensive lineman Bear McWhorter and three-star Dallas (Texas) Parish Episcopal wide receiver Jaylen Pile.

Michigan entered the day with the No. 34 ranked 2026 recruiting class nationally, per the On3 Industry team recruiting rankings. Michigan is also ranked No. 11 in the Big Ten. Oregon currently has the top class in the conference.
