Wolverine TV: Breaking down new 2025 Michigan DL commit Bobby Kanka
Michigan landed a commitment from 2025 Howell (Mich.) High defensive lineman Bobby Kanka following his unofficial visit for the BBQ at The Big House this weekend.
The 6-foot-4, 263-pounder picked Michigan over Kansas, Louisville, Michigan State, Minnesota, Northwestern, Penn State, Tennessee and others.
The Wolverine’s EJ Holland shares his thoughts on Kanka and what his commitment means for Michigan in the video below.
Michigan defensive line coach Mike Elston and defensive coordinator Jesse Minter pushed and earned Kanka’s pledge.
Here is what Holland had to say about Kanka.
“While Bobby Kanka is not ranked by On3, he is a really impressive underclassman,” Holland said. “I’ve actually been monitoring him since he was a freshman. I saw him live at the Under Armour camp in Columbus a couple of years ago, and he had some really impressive reps against guys that were way older than him at one of the top camps in the country. Right now, he’s listed at 6-foot-3, 264 pounds. He’s that typical Mike Elston three-technique.
“While he’s not a super athletic, high ceiling guy, he does bring a very high floor. I think he is a safe take for Michigan. If I were doing the rankings, I would probably start him off in that high three-star range.”
Kanka is not yet ranked in the On3 Industry Rankings.
Kanka recorded 36 tackles, including seven for loss, four sacks and two forced fumbles as a sophomore last season. Kanka was limited to just six games due to injury. He was an All-State honorable mention selection.

Kanka is the third verbal commit in Michigan’s 2025 recruiting class, joining Top 100 Miami (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna defensive back Chris Ewald and rising Buford (Ga.) High linebacker Mantrez Walker. All three commits play on the defensive side of the ball.
