Michigan landed a commitment from On300 Harper Woods (Mich.) High defensive back Jacob Oden on Thursday evening.

Oden picked Michigan over offers from Auburn, Iowa, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Penn State, Tennessee and others.

The Wolverine’s EJ Holland shares his thoughts on Oden and what his commitment means in the video below.

Oden’s decision comes after two unofficial visits in January. He is the son of former Michigan walk-on fullback Rod Oden.

At 6-foot-1, 185 pounds, Oden is ranked as the No. 14 safety and No. 173 overall prospect nationally, per the On3 Consensus. He is also ranked as the No. 5 overall recruit in the state of Michigan.

Oden is the sixth commit in Michigan’s 2024 recruiting class, which also features On300 Nashville (Tenn.) Ensworth linebacker Mason Curtis, On300 Avon (Ohio) High offensive lineman Luke Hamilton, Consensus four-star Bellevue (Wash.) High tight end Hogan Hansen, Consensus four-star Cincinnati (Ohio) St. Xavier defensive lineman Ted Hammond and three-star Wallingford (Conn.) Choate Rosemary Hall defensive lineman Manuel Beigel, who is originally from Germany.

Oden has an On3 NIL Valuation of $16.3K with 6.5K followers across all platforms. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
