Wolverine TV: Breaking down new Michigan DL commit Deyvid Palepale
Michigan landed a commitment from three-star Manheim (Pa.) Township defensive lineman Deyvid Palepale this week.
The Wolverine’s EJ Holland shares his thoughts on Palepale and what his commitment means for Michigan in the video above.
Palepale Recruitment
Palepale was considered a Michigan lean early in the recruiting process. However, he committed to childhood favorite USC after making an official visit in the summer.
USC recently fired defensive coordinator Alex Grinch, which opened the door for Michigan to make a late run before the early signing period.
Palepale reached out to Michigan defensive line coach Mike Elston in November, and the two began to rebuild their relationship. Elston was eventually able to seal the deal and flip Palepale away from USC.
“I like the way he develops,” Palepale said. “They have a lot of young guys playing with KG (Kenneth Grant) and Mason Graham. That speaks volumes about him and the guys doing the work. As a person, he’s amazing. When I’ve gone up to visit, he brings his wife and daughters around. He’s a family person. That’s somebody I look up to because he would be an extension of my mom and dad.”
At 6-foot-2, 305 pounds, Palepale is ranked as the No. 79 defensive lineman and No. 787 overall prospect nationally, per the On3 Industry Ranking. He is also ranked as the No. 20 overall recruit in the state of Pennsylvania this cycle.
